A resume is a reflection of whom you are that include your experience, skills and abilities. Consider it your business card to get business.
Having a clean, crisp resume is your key to landing a hotel job. You get one chance to show yourself off, so be ready and show the hiring manager what you got to do the job!
Your ultimate goal with your resume is to ensure the following:
1. Do I have the relevant skill set?
2. Did I present my current role well?
3. Did I communicate value and impact?
4. Am I telling a story about my work history and benefit I can bring?
5. Am I clear and concise of showcasing my skills, abilities and knowledge?
Create a standout summary. This is showcasing who you are at the top of the resume. There are 4 main sections:
Add job description paragraphs.
Under each previous job, add 2-4 sentences below the company name and job title This would include daily responsibilities and key objectives.
It is very important to use related keywords that are from the new job role in which you are applying for.
Showcase your accomplishments that are related to the job or job industry in which you are applying for.
This section would be called Accomplishments.
Use bullet points
These are key to showing the hiring manager your great attributes and successes..
Accomplishment sentence structure is compelling.
The accomplishment should be written in this order:
action verb > task > result
Example:
Increased guest review scores from 2.9 out of 5 to 3.7 out of 5 in 2020 during the covid pandemic due to the retraining of front desk team.
Include job description key words and phrases.
It is very important to tailor your resume to the current companies job description keywords and keyword phrases.
This helps get a higher chance of being selected if they use a resume tracking database as well as the hiring manager will feel you are a good match..
Format your resume for visibility.
Ensure your resume is clean, crisp and sophisticated.
Do not use tables, graphs, pictures, etc. It will confuse the resume database tracking system.
Use easy to read fonts. Do not bunch the sections together.
Focus on your current role
Your current role should be the most detailed and described. Hiring Managers really focus on what you are currently doing and how your skills and abilities will apply to the job you are applying to.
Communicate the value and impact you bring to the table.
Length of Resume
The length of your resume should not be longer than 2 Pages. Make it easy to read.
You do not want to discourage the hiring manager by providing a 3 or 4 page book.
Focus on your current role, accomplishments and the standout summary. Past roles should be 1-2 sentences.
